Mangroves can be trimmed in a variety of ways to provide a pleasing view while still protecting the health of the tree. Examples of the different trimming styles can be viewed below.
Topping (hedging): is one of the most widely used forms of trimming and involves maintaining the tops of the mangroves at a particular height; though no lower than 6 feet.
Stage trimming: involves trimming the upper portion of canopy by no more than 25% of the foliage. This method is effective for reducing mangroves in height over time while ensuring the health of the trees.
Window (understory): trimming provides a view through the larger trees by the selective removal within the lower or central area of the tree. This preferred method of trimming allows for a view while maintaining shade, privacy, and a windbreak.
